The Virginia Department of Education has released a summary of policy changes and resources to implement new legislation passed as House Bill 777, in 2024.

A child exiting foster care or who is in a kinship care arrangement and who moves into a different school division during the school year as a result of safely returning home, being emancipated, or transitioning to a new kinship care arrangement may remain in their current school placement through the current school year.
