Kinship care is when children and youth live with relatives, such as aunts, uncles, grandparents, siblings, extended family, or fictive kin (those known to the family). Formed Families Forward invites kinship and other family members, professionals and youth and young adults to a webinar presentation by C. Garrett Jones, LCSW.
Mr. Jones, formerly Resource Family and Family Engagement Program Manager at the Virginia Department of Social Services, is Child Welfare Strategic Initiatives Lead – Kin First Culture, Child Welfare Information Gateway, A Service of the Children’s Bureau/ACF/HHS.
This webinar will be focused on providing information regarding national trends and focus areas related to Kinship Care in both informal and formal situations. Specifically, Mr. Jones will:
1. Review the key factors that underlie the “Kin First” focus of child welfare operations and the role of the Family First Prevention Services Act.
2. Review financial and program/services supports available to informal and to formal (agency-involved) kinship families.
3. Share Child Welfare Information Gateway (CWIG) and Children’s Bureau resources.
