Description:
UVA Children’s NDBP provides diagnostic and therapeutic recommendations for a broad range of disabilities that present in childhood. NDBP includes developmental pediatricians, behavioral psychologists, and pediatric nurse practitioners. Many of their clinics are interdisciplinary including speech and language pathologists, physical therapists, and occupational therapists. Social work, registered dieticians, educational consultants are available. First step is to have your pediatrician send a referral with as much detail as possible regarding goals for evaluation . Call for more information – due to capacity limitations, there may be a waitlist. Village Care Program, under the NDBP division, is a multidisciplinary medical and mental health program for children who are placed outside the home whether in kinship care, foster care, or in a group setting. This clinic prioritizes the local community of Charlottesville. Outside referrals will be reviewed by the medical director and accepted on a case by case basis (which can happen simultaneously getting on the wait list). UVA NDBP is currently working on expanding capacity to serve families brought together by foster care or adoption. Many of the providers are able to evaluate for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders, which is important to put in the referral. Stephanie McNerney, CPNP and Emily Gonzalez, Phd are adoption informed.
