Description:
Available to Fairfax County families, Family Peer Support Partners (FPSPs) are trained professionals with expertise and valuable information to share with caregivers of system-involved youth. Children's Services Act (CSA) funding pays for FPSP services at youth and family treatment team meetings in Fairfax County schools and agencies. FPSP services are also available via community referrals to any caregiver of a youth under 21 living in Fairfax County who does not utilize CSA funding for services. FPSP services are available FREE OF CHARGE through a grant with Healthy Minds Fairfax in both English and Spanish for up to 8 hours per year, per individual (if youth does not utilize CSA funding). If you need additional caregiver support, please explore an application to CSA via the youth's school social worker for additional service options.
Family Peer Support Partners (FPSPs) provide services to caregivers of youth in Fairfax County who need support with:
-Understanding and navigating youth-involved systems (school, community mental health, courts, child welfare, etc.), especially when involved in multiple systems at once
-Emotional connection with people who have lived experiences who can walk side-by-side with caregivers who feel overwhelmed, isolated, or desperate to feel less alone
-Concrete assistance with completing applications or assessments preventing youths from accessing needed services and supports
-Linkages to additional support networks and long-term support resources
-Linkages to practical resources, like referrals to food pantries or financial assistance
