Description:
Newport Academy treats individuals ages 12-35 struggling with a variety of mental health challenges, including depression, anxiety, trauma, mood-disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, eating disorders, suicidal ideation and self-harming behavior. Through clinical expertise and holistic care, they empower clients and restore families. In the outpatient teen program, clients typically have a structured daily schedule that includes individual and group therapy sessions, experiential modalities, and time in the classroom focusing on academics and life skills. Depending on the day and the outpatient program location, teens may be doing yoga, making art or music, doing community service with their peers, or participating in family programs that involve parents and siblings in the healing process. In the residential program, each home-like residence features comfortable common areas for downtime, group sessions, and evening activities. The teen treatment in Virginia includes clinical and experiential modalities. Experiential activities include yoga, music, creative expression, and outdoor therapeutic activities—such as kayaking, hiking, and paddle boarding—in local parks and nature preserves, and on nearby rivers and lakes. In addition, the residential mental health treatment centers for teens in Virginia include a robust academic component to ensure teens continue to progress in their education while receiving the treatment they need. This provider has self-identified trauma expertise; all programs incorporate trauma-informed treatment modalities, including EMDR.
