Description:
Extra Special Parents (ESP) is a Virginia-based therapeutic foster care and adoption agency dedicated to supporting children, youth, and families through compassionate, trauma-informed care and community-centered services. Founded in 2006, ESP was created with the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to grow up in a safe, stable, and nurturing family environment where they can heal, build trust, and reach their full potential. Serving communities across Virginia, ESP works closely with foster, adoptive, and kinship families to provide specialized support for children with emotional, behavioral, and complex needs. The organization has built a strong network of trained foster and adoptive parents who receive ongoing education, advocacy, and 24/7 professional support to help children succeed in both family settings and their broader communities. ESP emphasizes trauma-informed parenting, strength-based approaches, and long-term relationship building as central parts of its model of care. In addition to therapeutic foster care and adoption services, ESP offers a range of community-based supports designed to strengthen families and improve outcomes for youth. These services include parent coaching, therapeutic mentoring, family support programs, independent living services, supervised visitation, and intensive care coordination. By combining clinical expertise with strong family partnerships, ESP aims to reduce instability, preserve connections, and help children experience permanency and belonging. ESP also launched FosterVA.org, an educational platform created to help prospective foster and adoptive parents better understand Virginia’s foster care system and the ongoing need for safe, supportive families. Through education, advocacy, and direct family support, ESP continues its mission of creating brighter futures for children and families throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.
