DC Candlelighters helps provide emotional, educational, practical, and financial support to families of children fighting cancer in the Northern Virginia area. Programs include financial assistance to families, survivor scholarships, educational support, emotional support, and family events. DC Candlelighters offers two $1000 scholarships to childhood cancer survivors in the DC Metro area age 17-30 post-secondary education. They also offer books age-specific books on cancer for little or no cost and volunteers make informal visits to hospitals to provide caregivers a chance to speak with others who have walked int their shoes. They also hold annual family events to give all members of the family a chance to reconnect and take a break from the world of childhood cancer.
