DESCRIPTION:Stronger Together is a psychoeducational and peer support group for teens and young adults (age 14 – 22) that will introduce tools that can be used to navigate everyday challenges. Professional clinicians facilitate the 8 weekly sessions. Skills include interpersonal effectiveness\, conflict resolution\, self-determination and self-efficacy. The group emphasizes positive peer supports as a context for strengths-based growth. A light dinner will be served each evening. Regular weekly attendance is expected. \nThe group will meet in person on the following Tuesdays from 6:30-8:00 pm: \nOct. 1\, 8\, 15\, 22\, 29\, and November 5\, 12\, 19\, 2024 \nThe group will focus on strengthening social engagement through conversation\, and activities. The group will feature a topic each week related to issues teens and young adults often face such as mental health challenges\, peer interactions\, healthy relationships and boundaries\, as well as other topics chosen by the group. The group will offer participants a chance to practice social skills\, learn from one another\, and get feedback from peers and group leaders. Group leaders will foster an environment of acceptance and members will share as much as little as they like. \nFall 2024 Stronger Together lead facilitator Karen Chaudhry\, LCSW has over 20 years of experience working with children and families. The group offers a network to share resources and information among the group members\, reducing feelings of isolation\, and celebrating family successes in maintaining permanency for and the ongoing commitment building strong families. Peer support can be critical to caregiver self-care and can contribute to healthy family functioning and improved outcomes for children and youth. \nThe group is FREE of charge. Meetings are facilitated by professional mental health clinicians who have deep experience with kinship families. \nThe group meets twice a month\, in two formats virtual and in-person. DESCRIPTION:Calling all basketball fans! Join us on Saturday\, November 23 to watch the George Mason University Men’s Patriots play Ferrum College at the Eagle Bank Arena in Fairfax. \nFree tickets are available for children and youth in foster\, adoptive\, or kinship families\, any biological children that may be part of those families\, and their parents/caregivers. There are a limited number of tickets and specific requirements for tickets – we will review your request and get back to you as soon as possible. Because each child will be paired with a GMU student from the Alpha Xi Delta (AXID) sorority and will be seated with this “Basketball Buddy\,” here are the requirements to apply for tickets: \n\nMaximum of 2 children per parent/caregiver\nMaximum of 2 parents/caregivers in one household (under one roof) per Order\nTherefore\, the maximum number of tickets allowable per Order is 6 – 2 parents/caregivers and 4 children\nChildren must be 7 years or older to receive a ticket (CHILDREN UNDER 7 YEARS OLD WILL NOT BE PROVIDED A TICKET FOR THE GAME)\nParents/caregivers MUST stay for the entirety of the game. They will be seated in the section near the children\, but will not be sitting next to them. The Basketball Buddies will be sitting with the children.\n\nPlease READ ALL of the information and rules on the Ticket Request form before submitting your order.

SUMMARY:Stronger Together Youth and Young Adult Peer Support Group
DESCRIPTION:Our Winter 2025 Stronger Together support group for youth and young adults meets for 8 weekly sessions on Wednesdays\, January 22 to March 12 from 6 – 7:30 PM. This Winter’s theme is Finding Strength Through Connection\, and group activities include practicing social engagement through creative activities and games.  The group emphasizes positive peer supports as a context for strengths-based growth.  Group members will engage with one another and learn ways to build on strengths\, find their personal ‘happy’\, and have fun in the company of peers. \nThe youth and young adult Stronger Together skills and peer support group is designed for teens and young adults age 14-22 who have lived experiences in one or more service systems such as: \n\nSocial services (foster care\, child welfare\, family services)\nSpecial education (learning or emotional disability or other condition)\nMental health services\nSubstance use treatment/recovery\n\nGroups are facilitated by professional clinicians and meet during the school year.  A light dinner is served each evening.
