Formed Families Forward (FFF) and the A Life Like Yours (ALLY) Center at The Arc of Loudoun are hosting a FREE one-day Bridge to the Future Workshop for youth and young adults who have disabilities or other specialized needs. \nWhen: Tuesday\, June 18\, 2024 from 9:30 AM to 3 PM \nWhere: Paxton Campus\, 601 Catoctin Circle NE\, Leesburg\, VA 20176 \nThrough fun and engaging activities\, the youth and young adult workshop participants will: \n\nInteract and connect with other youth and young adults their age through art\, music\, and movement activities.\nIdentify their strengths and interests and complete a needs assessment to assist in developing at least one short and one long-term goal and draft a plan of action.\nExplore career training and post-high school education opportunities that match their goals and interests.\nPractice self-advocacy and strengthen social and job-readiness skills to improve confidence and fluency to gain the position they seek.\n\nA box lunch will be provided. DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Formed Families Forward\, this summer fun family event is an your opportunity to connect in person\, help others through service\, play\, dine\, relax and have fun! \nWe kick off with a brief community service activity for the whole family. Then all will enjoy a picnic dinner under the pavilion. Main dishes (pulled pork and chicken sandwiches\, and mac and cheese) and drinks will be provided; we ask families to bring a side dish or dessert to share. Following dinner\, young children enjoy a magic show while teens and young adults may choose to connect in a fun activity of their own! \nParents and caregivers will have time to talk with each other and visit our exhibitors. \nThe picnic will be held at Nottoway Park (Note: this is a different venue than in previous years). DESCRIPTION:Stronger Together is a psychoeducational and peer support group for teens and young adults (age 14 – 22) that will introduce tools that can be used to navigate everyday challenges. Professional clinicians facilitate the 8 weekly sessions. Skills include interpersonal effectiveness\, conflict resolution\, self-determination and self-efficacy. The group emphasizes positive peer supports as a context for strengths-based growth. A light dinner will be served each evening. Regular weekly attendance is expected. \nThe group will meet in person on the following Tuesdays from 6:30-8:00 pm: \nOct. 1\, 8\, 15\, 22\, 29\, and November 5\, 12\, 19\, 2024 \nThe group will focus on strengthening social engagement through conversation\, and activities. The group will feature a topic each week related to issues teens and young adults often face such as mental health challenges\, peer interactions\, healthy relationships and boundaries\, as well as other topics chosen by the group. The group will offer participants a chance to practice social skills\, learn from one another\, and get feedback from peers and group leaders. Group leaders will foster an environment of acceptance and members will share as much as little as they like. \nFall 2024 Stronger Together lead facilitator Karen Chaudhry\, LCSW has over 20 years of experience working with children and families. She has led many groups and provided individual therapy for children\, teens and adults. Karen works in the child welfare field and some of her expertise includes trauma\, foster care\, adoptive and kinship families.
