DESCRIPTION:Self-advocacy is the crucial skill of understanding one’s rights\, strengths\, and needs\, and effectively communicating them. It builds confidence and promotes independence\, allowing youth to speak up to teachers\, employers\, and other adults to get what they want and need. These skills don’t always come naturally\, but they can be taught and nurtured\, and become easier with practice. Summer break can be the perfect time to work on these skills. There will be a service project and activities for the whole family followed by dinner. \nMain dishes and drinks will be provided; we ask families to bring a side dish or dessert to share. \nParents and caregivers will have time to talk with each other and visit our exhibitors. NOTE: Parents and caregivers are responsible for supervision of their children at all times. This is NOT a drop-off event.
