DESCRIPTION:Due to federal executive orders issued at end of January 2025\, this webinar has been POSTPONED indefinitely. Please check back or follow our social media for updates. \n  \nKinship care is when children and youth live with relatives\, such as aunts\, uncles\, grandparents\, siblings\, extended family\, or fictive kin (those known to the family). Formed Families Forward invites kinship and other family members\, professionals and youth and young adults to a webinar presentation by C. Garrett Jones\, LCSW. \nMr. Jones\, formerly Resource Family and Family Engagement Program Manager at the Virginia Department of Social Services\, is Child Welfare Strategic Initiatives Lead – Kin First Culture\, Child Welfare Information Gateway\, A Service of the Children’s Bureau/ACF/HHS. \nThis webinar will be focused on providing information regarding national trends and focus areas related to Kinship Care in both informal and formal situations. Specifically\, Mr. Jones will: \n1. Review the key factors that underlie the “Kin First” focus of child welfare operations and the role of the Family First Prevention Services Act. \n2. Review financial and program/services supports available to informal and to formal (agency-involved) kinship families. \n3. Learn what to expect\, what’s “normal\,” and when it’s time to seek a doctor’s input. \nRegister at link below. \n  \nPresented by Professional Training Facilitator Melissa Long\, CTRS\, CDP\, CADDCT\, BF-CMT\, DCCS\, DCC-CI\, Director of Education and Support\, Insight Memory Care Center \nMelissa is a graduate of the University of Southern Maine with a B.S. in Therapeutic Recreation and Leisure Studies and a minor in Health Studies. Melissa is a certified recreational therapist\, certified dementia practitioner and educator\, certified best friends dementia trainer\, certified dementia capable care specialist and trainer. and a Licensed BCAT® practitioner. \nMelissa has been providing care to older adults for over 20 years. She is also the recipient of the ATRA Frank L. Basile Clinician of the Year 2016\, 2024 Pride in Our Community Leader of Loudoun County Pride\, and National Certified Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Trainer (CADDCT) of 2024. She has presented at numerous conferences and has published evidence-based practice programing. \nShe has had the opportunity to live in Romania and provide sensory integration for orphans. She also held the position of Social Coordinator for participants in the Cerebral Palsy – International Sports and Recreation Association (CP- ISRA) World Championship. Through Melissa’s experience both clinically and in the community\, she brings and provides out of the box thinking and support to both clients and caregivers daily.
