The Kids We Lose film screening

December 7, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm EST

Sponsored by Fairfax Co SEPTA and Fairfax Co Council of PTAs.

FCPS is in the process of finalizing its restraint and seclusion policy before the state deadline of Jan 1. In advance of a schedule FCPS School Board vote on December 17th, the Fairfax County Special Education PTA (SEPTA), the Fairfax County Council PTA (FCCPTA), Northern Virginia District PTA (NOVA District PTA) have joined together to advocate for schools that are free from restraint and seclusion. In order for the community and policymakers to understand this difficult issue, we present this award winning documentary, “The Kids We Lose” that outlines the challenges AND the solutions. The Kids We Lose is a 90 minute documentary about the human side of being and having a child or student with behavioral challenges, and the struggles faced by parents, educators, staff in facilities, mental health clinicians and law enforcement professionals in trying to ensure that these kids receive the help they need. The Kids We Lose also exposes the often brutal, inhumane ways in which our kids with social, emotional, and behavior challenges are treated in schools, inpatient psychiatry units, residential facilities, and prisons. These are the kids we lose. When we don’t help our most vulnerable kids, we all lose. And it’s all so very unnecessary. Please note that you must Register and Attend this session live, it will not be recorded and sent out afterwards.
