Managing Holiday Stress during a Pandemic for Foster, Adoptive and Kinship Families
December 7 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EST
Holidays can be stressful under normal circumstances, especially for families formed through foster care, kinship or adoption. Tenuous relationships with birth families, siblings and extended relatives may make coordinating celebrations difficult in the best of times. This year however, the pandemic brings extra challenges due to social distancing guidelines and travel restrictions, and honoring family traditions may not be possible. During this webinar, we will share ideas to create new traditions while being sensitive to the sense of loss that children may feel this year. We will discuss ways to promote trust in formed families by involving all partners in new ways to celebrate the holidays. We will focus on opportunities to give children voice in the decision making process, encouraging them to express their feelings and concerns while promoting resilience.
Presented by Beth Spivack, MSW, Family Support and Outreach Director and Kelly Henderson, Ph.D., Executive Director, Formed Families Forward.
