Navigating special education eligibility, evaluation and reevaluation can be extra challenging for foster, adoptive and kinship families. This session will address some strategies for smoothing the rough edges of the process for our ‘formed’ families.
Participants will be able to name who in foster, adoptive and kinship families can request and provide consent for reevaluation; identify disability categories under which many children and youth in foster, adoptive and kinship families are eligible; distinguish the impact of pre-placement delays and challenges from disabilities requiring special education and related services; and explore trauma-sensitive assessment and evaluation approaches that result in stronger, more accurate identification of disabilities for children and youth in foster, adoptive and kinship families.
The presenter for this webinar is Kelly Henderson, PhD, Executive Director, Formed Families Forward
2nd of 3 webinars in the Helping Foster, Adoptive and Kinship Families Navigate Special Education series. Each webinar has its own registration.
