Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders and other Conditions related to Prenatal Exposure
This page features a variety of resources for families raising children, youth or young adults who have experienced prenatal exposure to alcohol or drugs. Several resources, noted with a (T) below, are particularly helpful for sharing background information with teachers and other adults who work with children and youth with FASD.
In October 2013, Formed Families Forward was pleased to host therapist Melissa Elligson, MA, who presented a “Brain-based Approaches to Fetal Alcohol and Other Neurobehavioral Conditions” workshop to a packed audience. Melissa returned in fall of 2015 for a four-session training on FASD and related conditions.
Melissa is part of a national cadre of professionals trained by Diana Malbin, MSW of FASCETS, Inc.. Melissa discussed the neurobehavioral foundation of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) and other conditions. She reviewed eight primary neurobehavioral symptoms, and detailed information about how to accommodate persons with these symptoms in school and home settings.
Provided here are links to some of the many resources Melissa shared, as well as other resources compiled by Formed Families Forward.
